Description
The Targus USB-C Universal DV4K Docking Station (DOCK190USZ) is a versatile connectivity hub that connects laptops to dual 4K displays, peripherals, and network via a single USB-C cable. It provides 100W power delivery for laptop charging and features DisplayLink technology for universal compatibility across Windows, macOS, and Linux. While not a smart home device itself, it enables reliable workstation setups that integrate with Home Assistant for presence detection and workspace automation.
Overview
My Implementation
I use the Targus DOCK190USZ at my desk to connect dual 4K monitors, keyboard, mouse, and Ethernet to my laptop via a single USB-C connection. Home Assistant monitors the dock's network connection to detect when I'm actively working at my desk, triggering automations that adjust desk lighting to optimal brightness, set room temperature to my preferred working comfort level, and activate do-not-disturb modes on smart displays. When the dock disconnects at end of workday, the system transitions to evening lighting and resumes normal notification settings.
