Air Purifier Activation Post-Shower

S.C.O.R.E.SafetySecurity

Overview

This capability addresses the increase in PM2.5 levels caused by humidity after a shower, ensuring the air quality in the home remains safe and healthy. By automatically activating the air purifier, it helps to mitigate potential respiratory issues and maintain a comfortable living environment.

Benefits

  • Improved air quality by reducing harmful particulates after showering
  • Automated response enhances convenience and ensures consistent air monitoring
  • Promotes a healthier home environment for residents, especially those with respiratory conditions

Intent

The purpose of this capability is to monitor air quality and humidity levels, triggering the air purifier in response to elevated PM2.5 levels following a shower. This ensures that the home environment is adaptive and maintains optimal air quality.

Preconditions

  • Air quality sensor capable of measuring PM2.5 levels.
  • Humidity sensor to detect increased humidity after showering.
  • Smart air purifier integrated with the home capability system.
  • Home Assistant installed and configured.
  • Integration available and authenticated: Zigbee2MQTT.
  • Device installed and reachable: Smoke Detector and Alarm Trigger.

Actors

  • Homeowner using the shower
  • Family members benefiting from improved air quality
  • Guests visiting the home

Trigger

The capability is triggered by a rise in humidity detected by the humidity sensor, which occurs after a shower, combined with a subsequent increase in PM2.5 levels measured by the air quality sensor.

Workflow Description

1. Detect Humidity Increase

The humidity sensor detects a rise in humidity levels after a shower.

2. Measure PM2.5 Levels

The air quality sensor measures PM2.5 levels to assess air quality.

3. Evaluate Conditions

The system evaluates if the PM2.5 levels exceed a predefined threshold.

4. Activate Air Purifier

If PM2.5 levels are high, the air purifier is automatically activated.

5. Monitor Air Quality

The air quality sensor continues to monitor PM2.5 levels during operation.

6. Deactivate When Safe

The air purifier will turn off once PM2.5 levels return to safe limits.

Postconditions

The air quality in the home is improved with the air purifier actively reducing PM2.5 levels, ensuring a healthier environment after shower use.

Optional Enhancements

  • Integrate with smart home systems for notifications when the air purifier activates
  • Adjust purifier settings based on real-time air quality data
  • Automate maintenance reminders for the air purifier filters based on usage
