Benefits

  • Helps detect harmful air pollutants, improving overall health and safety for family members.
  • Enables proactive adjustments to HVAC systems for better indoor air quality.
  • Informs homeowners about environmental changes that may affect comfort and well-being.

Intent

The purpose of the Altruist sensor capability is to continuously monitor indoor air quality and environmental conditions. This capability enables timely alerts and actions to enhance the health and comfort of the home’s occupants.

Preconditions

  • Altruist sensor installed and configured in the home.
  • Integration with a home capability system like Home Assistant.
  • Power supply available for the sensor.
  • Home Assistant installed and configured.
  • Integration available and authenticated: Zigbee2MQTT.
  • Device installed and reachable: Smoke Detector and Alarm Trigger.

Actors

Workflow Description

1. Sensor Initialization

The Altruist sensor powers up and connects to the home network, starting to monitor environmental conditions.

2. Data Collection

The sensor continuously collects data on temperature, humidity, PM2.5/PM10, CO2 levels, and noise.

3. Threshold Check

The system checks the collected data against pre-defined thresholds for air quality.

4. Alert Generation

If the air quality readings exceed acceptable limits, an alert is generated and sent to the homeowner.

5. Action Recommendation

The system suggests actions to improve air quality, such as ventilating the space or adjusting HVAC settings.

Postconditions

After the capability completes, the homeowner receives alerts about air quality issues and can take necessary actions to ensure a healthier environment.

Optional Enhancements

  • Integrate with smart HVAC systems for automatic adjustments.
  • Add historical data tracking for long-term air quality trends.
  • Implement voice assistant notifications for real-time updates.
